Councillor Dr. Amne Osseyran

Dr. Amne Osseyran is a distinguished Bermudian Family Physician and forensic expert, elected as a Town Councillor for St. George on May 11, 2023. Known for her exceptional drive and commitment to public service, Dr. Osseyran has consistently achieved at the highest levels, from excelling in the Bermuda Public School System to earning multiple advanced degrees. Her academic journey includes degrees Forensic Science, Biomedical Science, Clinical Forensic Medicine, Medical Science and Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. This formidable educational background, pursued while balancing significant personal responsibilities, underscores her unwavering dedication.

Dr. Osseyran's career is marked by significant contributions to both clinical practice and groundbreaking research. While working within the King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) Pathology department, she pioneered research into non-invasive HPV testing for males, a critical endeavor that led to an invitation to the International Cancer Congress in Geneva.  This research garnered the attention of Nobel Laureate Professor Harald zur Hausen, who himself discovered the virus. Her work has profoundly impacted public health in Bermuda, particularly in the detection and treatment of HPV. 

Beyond her research, Dr. Osseyran has been a key consultant in Bermuda’s COVID-19 pandemic response; she served as a Director for Long-Term Care and was the supervising consultant of the National testing site.  Dr. Osseyran currently serves as a General Practitioner at Island Health Services in St. George’s and as an on-call Forensic physician with the Bermuda Police Service.  Her roles allow use of her skills to directly help others and uplift her community.  

As a newly elected town councillor, Dr. Osseyran brings her extensive expertise, compassionate approach, and a deep-seated desire to serve her community with integrity. Her legacy of service is an extension of her familial ties with community and government. Dr. Osseyran remains committed to providing patient-centered care and leveraging her diverse skill set to improve health outcomes and advocate for the well-being of the people of St. George; this commitment is extended to the business stakeholders of St. George’s with her role as business councilor and to Bermuda as a whole.
