St. George’s New Year’s Eve Lineup Revealed
Joy, family, and quality entertainment
BERMUDA, St. George’s — December 21, 2022 — The Corporation of St. George’s reveals the lineup for the New Year’s Eve celebration in the Town of St. George on December 31st, placing emphasis on high quality entertainment in a community setting.
The Rt. Worshipful Mayor, George Dowling, III, announces, "Towne traditions are an important element of the Towne’s cultural identity. As the only parish with a Towne, we cater to a broad range of audiences and have placed our focus on bringing the community together at an event that a child, parent, teen, and senior can attend, enjoy, and share as a special memory. I acknowledge the work of the Corporation of St. George’s executive and staff who make this event possible. Today, we have this special occasion where we can now invite all of our relatives and friends from across the bridge to come home and celebrate New Year's Eve as a family."
The Corporation of St. George’s has been hosting a New Year’s celebration for decades, starting as a small gathering of Towne folk. It has grown to see more residents travel to the Towne as the experience was enhanced and it became recognized as one of the most unique new year's celebrations with the Onion Drop. Few realize that in the 1800s, Bermuda's reputation for onion variety (red, yellow, white, and purple) sparked a trading frenzy, with thousands of onions per week being sent to the United States East Coast. And today, residents still identify themselves by the nickname "onion" when declaring island roots. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the corporation has infused elements of heritage to build on its historical reputation.
Candy-Lee Foggo, Town Manager, informs, "To give families a break, parking is free, and entry is free. With inflation impacting everyone, the UNESCO NYE Celebration is the best value. We have secured the talents of Nadanja Bailey to MC our event. He recently wrapped up his World Triathlon comical promo for Dame Flora Duffy’s winning appearance at that event. He has more than ten years' experience keeping crowds amused and entertained with his insightful comedy. We are giving the DJ spotlight to Mr. Dana "DJ ICEMAN" Rawlins, a member of the St. George’s community and a veteran in the entertainment field. Our headliner will be The WallStreet Band. They are Bermuda’s only Big Band, winner of "Best of Bermuda," and offer a wide repertoire of music that features horns, drums, guitars, keyboards, and powerful singers that will hit the right notes with the crowd as we bring in the new year. Closing in on midnight, MC Nadanja will lead the countdown into the new year with our Bermuda Onion lowering from the top of the Towne Hall."
To keep you hydrated and refreshed, food vendors will be on the square, which include: JB’s Pizza, Ashley's Lemonade, Dandy Donuts, Bermuda Cupcake Company, Four Star, and Jazzy Treats. Parents will also find a kids' zone with fun castles to keep their children entertained.
Mayor Dowling adds, "Please don’t drink and drive. If you need to get home, please ask someone. The Bermuda Taxi Association has been asked to add on extra taxis to ensure all outbound transport options are available after midnight. If residents wish to stay over in St. George’s, we have the St. Regis, St. George’s Club, and Grotto Bay. Please visit our website at corpstgeorge.bm for additional details."
