Municipal Reform
The Government has decided it would be prudent to delay the transition to a quango for 12 months. During that time, the Corporation will stay as-is. That means your elected councillors will remain for another year. There will no Municipal Election in 2022. The Corporation of St. George will continue its normal business operations.
As we get closer to the 12-month mark, we will advise of any changes the Corporation may make in serving the community.
COVID Update
Effective April 1st, the Bermuda Government will relax many of the mitigation protocols for COVID-19. More than 70% of the population is vaccinated with two doses, and just as many have received boosters. The relaxation allows the Corporation of St George to produce in-person events. The following conditions will apply for the Corporation of St George spaces.
Mask - follow indoor guidelines set for government buildings
Social Distancing - no restrictions
Sanitization - a station will be provided at enclosed locations
Please follow gov.bm for any changes to public health guidelines.
Mayor presented with Peace Tree
March 25, Mayor Dowling and MP Ming were presented with an endemic Olivewood Tree to symbolically represent a Peace Tree, by students from St. George’s Preparatory School.
The event was organized by Mr. Glenn Fubler, Pause For Peace, Join For Justice. The event highlighted the impact of Mr. Leonard Bascome as a “peaceful warrior” in the March 25, 1953 General Election.
The event highlighted the attendance of Viola Fubler- Leonard Bascome's daughter - two of his grandchildren - also in attendance - have served the Old Town in a way that speaks to his legacy. That includes the former Mayor & MP - Kenneth Bascome and the current Town Manager - Candy-Lee Foggo.
Congratulations Calvin Smith
It is a bittersweet announcement to say a colleague is retiring. Calvin Smith has spent 42 years with the Corporation of St. George and during those years of service has built life-long friendships with staff and the community. The Corporation of St. George wishes Calvin all the best and thank you for all the years served.

Electric Buses Come To Town
With the Government's push to bring green solutions to the island, the public transportation department is rolling out electric buses. A charging station will be installed at the St George’s Bus Depot. Electric buses may run quieter than gas buses, so please be alert to the change in sound. The new buses are reported to be slightly smaller and have the ability of USB charging and Wi-Fi. As more buses hit the road, look to PTB for enhanced transportation services like live tracking.
April 20th - Peppercorn Ceremony
We are pleased to announce the ceremony will return as an in-person event. This will be Mayor Dowling's first public address to the Town for this event. The traditional pomp and pageantry returns for the benefit of residents and tourists.
Here are snapshots of past Peppercorn Ceremonies.
