Bermuda Heroes Day Holiday Trash Collection
There will be no trash collection on Monday, 20th June 2022.
Residents and Businesses Trash Collection will resume Tuesday, June 21, 2022.
Road Closures
When the Corporation host major events, we will reduce public access to ensure public safety. On some occassions, there are no road closures, but there may be traffic delays as the participants exit the Town.

Introducing The Town Plan Steering Committee
We are pleased to announce that the below Town members accepted roles to help the CSG with the Town Plan.The Steering Committee meets regularly and gives guidance on how to proceed with key elements of the Town Plan. The process may take a year before a formal document is laid out. However, be assured that pressing Town projects that may fall within the overall Town Plan will get attention.

The Great Sign Caper
It would not be a Town if we did not have a mystery to solve.
If you are wondering where the signs went, we found some of them. It did not take any sleuthing on our part, the thieves conscious got the best of them and they confessed.Apparently, in some “light-hearted” fun, visitors stole location, directional and private signs throughout the Town.
While some consider this theft as harmless, since it did not cause injury. Those actions cause safety concerns —ambulance and police use signs for emergencies. And replacements generate needless work and expense to requisition, produce then complete sign reinstallation.
We don’t have the resources to monitor these infractions or seek recompense from visitors outside our jurisdiction. So all we can do is implore visitors to cease these actions before they are a cause harm.
The Marina
It will be ready for the Winter.
The Corporation have secured the structural engineers and materials are on island. The engineers are reviewing the project with construction set to begin in July and finishing in December. We advise area businesses please be aware noise may increase during certain parts of construction. That is an unavoidable side effect of progress.Traffic Advisory
St George’s trenching extended until September
Please be cautious leaving or entering the Town, there is one lane and a deep open trench. These road works are part a regional program to provide infrastructure upgrades to the parish.“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to inform motorists that the ongoing BLDC’s trench work from Rocky Hill Park to Ferry Reach Road will continue to require a one lane closure up until 2nd September, 2022.” — By Order

Community Speaks
Last month, Mayor Dowling wrote to the editors of the local media to help clarify some misconceptions about how the town works and the desires of the community.
Online commenters response to the letter centered on a theme: address the town's facade. Some recommendations include: - Fundraise for paint and cleaning supplies;
- Tell private residents to fix their property;
- Assemble a team to paint the building, doors and blinds of the privately owned businesses and homes.
The Corporation of St George is not a charity, it is a corporate municipality service provider.
We must remind the community that the Corporation does not tax residents or businesses. The income we receive funds:
- Town operations such as the marina development, weekly trash collection and management of various Town assets;
- Supports social programs such as the Cup Match Extravaganza, UNESCO Poetry Day, End To End;
- And economic-boosting programs like St. George’s Marine Expo.

We all have heroes, be they personal, local figures or global stars. Bermuda has its heroes, which are recognized annually on Bermuda’s National Heroes Day. That holiday gives us time to reflect on those that made a difference, but might traditionally go unnoticed based on our colonial mores. Our history books revere great leaders but are generally absent of Bermuda’s cultural diversity that reflects contributions from the likes of Mary Prince, Sir John Swan or Dame Lois Browne Evans.
Recently, the Bermuda Government made a change to Heroes Day and provided a public statement.
“To retain the distinct and extraordinary character of this award, the nomination for a new National Hero will now be open to the public every ten years with the next cycle beginning in 2025.” — Dr Ernest Peets, the Youth, Culture and Sports Minister
