Observed in the Town of St. George on March 24, 2025, World Poetry Day celebrates one of humanity’s most treasured forms of cultural and linguistic expression and identity. Practiced throughout history – in every culture and on every continent – poetry speaks to our common humanity and our shared values, transforming the simplest of poems into a powerful catalyst for dialogue and peace.
UNESCO first adopted 21 March as World Poetry Day during its 30th General Conference in Paris in 1999.

Celebrating 25 Years of our World Heritage Site Status

Students were encouraged to reflect on the value of preserving important places, cultures and traditions; to express their ideas about what makes the Town of St. George special and why it’s important to protect it, fostering a sense of pride and responsibility for the future.

2025 Participants

The Corporation of St. George is a UNESCO World Heritage Site partner and supports this worthwhile cultural program. Each year, the Corporation collaborates with area schools, local artisans, and poets to continue the traditions of poetry reading, writing, and recitals. A highlight of these activities is the annual recitation on the Town Square, which becomes a town milestone and a lasting memory for participants, helping to tell the town's story and strengthen community bonds through the arts.
