Cup Match Extravaganza Thank You!

We would like to thank everyone who showed up and participated in our Town tradition.

It was an evening filled with great memories, friends, family, rivalry, and fun! Yes, there were a few hiccups, but that occurs with every event. For example, the weather decided to wrap the show before the gombeys could hit the stage.

Nevertheless, the highlights were our MC, Nikita Robinson, who got everyone into the festive spirit of this event—the community coming together. While DJ ICEMAN helped set the vibe. For the first time ever, St. George’s and Somerset Club shared the stage at our event, even though they were too shy to dance :-). But don’t worry, UDP hits the mark with every performance. Ms. Cindy Smith, Bermuda's Song Bird, demonstrated what it is to grow up in the community and give back with her outstanding performance. But the topper was all the kids on stage backing Bermuda’s own Fire Wayne. Soca is a sound that travels through generations and connects us to our Caribbean roots.

The Olde Towne: The Business of Being a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Being designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site is a prestigious recognition that places Bermuda on a global pedestal for its outstanding historical significance.

Bermuda was granted the UNESCO designation based on the following criteria:

'Criterion (iv): The Historic Town of St George with its related fortifications is an outstanding example of a continuously occupied, fortified, colonial town dating from the early 17th century, and the oldest English town in the New World.'

The primary purpose of this designation is to preserve and conserve the designated location. This involves maintaining the site in the condition it was in when inspected by UNESCO while also uncovering untapped elements that may still be undiscovered. There should be no confusion about the expectations for the Olde Towne: it is meant to be a historical location that appears unchanged and unaffected by any modern alterations.
