Annual Peppercorn Ceremony

Annual Peppercorn Ceremony
Wednesday, May 8th | 10:30AM | King’s Square

This unconventional ceremony celebrates the time (hundreds of years ago) that a single peppercorn was exchanged for a rent payment. The Peppercorn Ceremony is one of those events that makes you feel as though you've travelled back in time, with a parade full of officials and dignitaries in full-period garb, horse-drawn carriages, military music and a classic Town Crier narrating the festivities.

May 24th: Culture = Energy

Town full of energy.

The nature of culture is that it continues to evolve and grow, and Bermudian people infuse ours with excitement. We seamlessly blend our roots with new traditions, and add cultural elements to everyday life. Our ability to generate this endless cultural energy is why at a sports event, part of the excitement is in the spectators fashions, the intricacy of a camp set-up. It is why when our athletes compete in sports internationally, the whole island stops and becomes heated experts at the rules, no matter how new to us. We are fiercely proud of our teams – whether that be Cup Match, football, or “Cunny” Games – and show the same level of enthusiasm when we see majorettes, dancers, and hear the rumble of the Gombey drums. No matter how heated the community banter grows over the best goal, the nicest dive off peak, the cleanest shank dank there is a common dream we all share that imagines a Bermuda of possibilities, a land of endless opportunities to be better. There is something about the Bermudian culture that urges you to leap to your feet and cheer, dance, and bring the energy – so grab your airhorns, it’s Heritage Month! Bermp bermp!.

Vendor market returns.

CSG backs entrepreneurs.

The Corporation of St. George has re-invigorated the town square by hosting a returning vendor market for the past few weeks. This program is the restoration of a tradition that has operated on and off, thriving in 2010 when hundreds of people filled Water Street and Market Wharf.

Times have changed; today, e-commerce has fully taken over, but the demand for a community shopping experience has never left. Retail is not a business for the faint of heart.  It not only takes an idea and some gumption; it really does require passion.

An outdoor market demands that you know the customer base you desire to attract and be able to present on the spot to persuade a sale—each and every time. It is a talent; some just call it great customer service. E-commerce is joyless; it does not offer you a smile and cannot sincerely assist you in matching you with a desire or want.

If you have not had the chance or probably did not know about the vendor market restart, we offer you this as an invitation to come out on a Sunday afternoon to find some great treasures and experience the traditional Bermudian hospitality we offer to all of our customers. For more details, please visit their webpage for dates, times, and supporting vendors.

If you have a passion for food, we invite you to patronize any of our Town dining establishments.
