Dear Town Members,
We are happy to keep you informed about the work our team has undertaken to support and enhance the town. To stay updated, you are invited to attend the monthly General Council Meetings held on the fourth Thursday of every month. Our report is presented to the Council during these meetings, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and share feedback during the public session.
Updates
Somers Garden Wall Complete
The repairs to the collapsed wall at Somers Garden are now complete.
Blockade Alley
Work has commenced to repair the gutters along Blockage Alley to improve drainage and prevent water from settling and undermining the wall again.
Potholes
Corporation of St. George’s staff continue to repair potholes around the town created by the increased rainfall.
Resident Hedges
Residents are reminded to maintain the hedges on their property to prevent vegetation from overgrowing and hanging into the public streets.
Mural Update
The final depictions of the mural will be completed soon, and we look forward to the official unveiling.
Municipal Reform
Municipal Reform is moving ahead legislatively; this signifies the end of Municipal Elections.

Honoring a Legacy: Midshipman Richard Sutherland Dale Service
On Saturday, February 28th, 2026, the community of St. George's gathered in King's Square for the Annual Commemorative Service honoring Midshipman Richard Sutherland Dale, USN. Hosted by The Friends of St. Peter's Church, this moving tradition — which first began in 1932 — marked the passing of one of the final victims of the War of 1812 and celebrated the enduring rapport and historical kindness shown by the people of St. George's toward a young American seaman in distress, serving as a poignant reminder of the enduring friendship between Great Britain and the United States.
The evening commenced with a ceremonial inspection of the TS Admiral Somers Sea Cadet Corps by His Excellency the Governor of Bermuda, followed by a wreath-laying at Stile House to honor the fifteen US prisoners of war who died in St. George's between 1812 and 1815. The commemoration continued with a processional led by Pipe Major David Frith and Drummer Peter Profit to the historic St. Peter's Churchyard, where wreaths were laid at Dale's grave in a tribute attended by His Excellency the Governor of Bermuda, the Mayor of St. George, and the US Consul General. There, amidst hymns and readings by distinguished guests, attendees reflected on the "generous and tender sympathy" that bridged the divide between nations centuries ago. Following the benediction and the playing of "The Minstrel Boy," guests joined together for refreshments in the Edith Clair Spencer Hall to conclude the evening in the spirit of community and remembrance.

Scoop The Poop
Dogs seek owners help in poop clean up.
Dogs are adorable, but their poop is not. In our Town, maintaining a pristine appearance is crucial, and people remember cleanliness. Regrettably, we must address instances of carelessness.
While we love strolling with our canine companions, we do not enjoy having our staff clean up after them or guests being subjected to the smoosh of the odour-carrying clumps that leave a dreadful impression. We kindly request all dog owners to keep their pets on their leash and to be responsible and pick up after their pets when walking along Water Street, Ordnance Island, and King’s Square.
We had to implement a ban on dogs in our gardens, and we hope to avoid extending that ban to other public walking areas in the town.

Spotlight: Annual Peppercorn Ceremony
The ceremony brings together a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, civic leaders, and members of the public for one of Bermuda's most charming and time-honoured traditions. Proceedings open with a parade led by the Royal Bermuda Regiment band, setting a ceremonial tone as the Governor and Mayor make their formal arrivals. Following an inspection of the guard, the Mayor extends a Town Welcome before the Governor addresses those assembled.
The centerpiece of the occasion is the symbolic payment of rent — a single peppercorn — offered before the eyes of all in attendance, a gesture that captures the enduring pageantry and gentle wit of Bermudian civic life.
The event draws a broad cross-section of island society, from the Governor and Premier to Members of Parliament, the Town Mayor, Lodge members, clergy, and distinguished guests, with children among the crowd to witness this living piece of Bermudian heritage.

Dreamscape Designs
The couple behind Dreamscape Designs is putting a homegrown stamp on St. George's — one original creation at a time
When Corinne and George Leite set up their stall at Harbour Nights back in 2023, they weren't selling someone else's products with a Bermuda sticker slapped on. Everything on the table was Corinne's own work — designed on the island, made to her specifications, and unlike anything else on Front Street that night.
Two years later, not much has changed, except now they have a proper home. Dreamscape Designs opened its doors on Water Street in St. George's in May 2024, and the little shop has quietly become one of the more interesting stops in the historic Town.
Corinne is the designer. George, a veteran of the business world, keeps the operation running. It's a partnership that works — part creative studio, part well-run small business. "We work directly with manufacturers to bring our original concepts to life," Corinne says. "Quality, authenticity, a strong brand identity — that's what we're after."
Don't come looking for the usual tourist fare. Every piece in the shop started as an idea in Corinne's head, not a catalogue. That's a rarer thing than it sounds in a retail landscape full of resellers and imported goods dressed up as local.
The shop is open every day of the week, which says something about how seriously the Leites take being present in the community. St. George's, with all its cobblestones and centuries of stories, suits them. "The history, the charm, the community spirit," Corinne says of what keeps them rooted there. "It creates a real connection between our brand and the place we operate in."
