Dear Town Members,
We are happy to keep you informed about the work our team has undertaken to support and enhance the town. To stay updated, you are invited to attend the monthly General Council Meetings held on the fourth Thursday of every month. Our report is presented to the Council during these meetings, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and share feedback during the public session.
Updates
Somers Garden Wall Complete
The repairs to the collapsed wall at Somers Garden are now complete.
Blockade Alley
Asphalting of the road surface has commenced following repairs to improve drainage in the area to prevent future undermining of the Somers Garden wall.
Potholes
Corporation of St. George’s staff continue to repair potholes around the town created by the increased rainfall.
Resident Hedges
Residents are reminded to maintain the hedges on their property to prevent vegetation from overgrowing and hanging into the public streets.

You are invited to park in the Town of St. George. Please follow the posted street notices:
- One-hour parking is available in marked locations.
- All-day parking is available at designated parking lots.
Gina’s Way
A little girl walked along Government Hill Road and saw an Unfinished Church. She knew that those who started on that path had great hopes of an angelic presentation to the town, but who would have known that structure had such a strong foundation it would stand for generations—hosting beautiful weddings with angelic brides instead and beginning the path of so many perfect lives. And in only a few steps, that same road she walked on would bear her name in the future.
They would name the road Gina Swainson Way after her—the woman who stepped forward to represent Bermuda and stood with such poise to hear her name called as Miss World.
On the day of dedication, it would be a woman named Quinell Francis, JP, who cared for the town as mayor and attended East End Primary and Berkeley Institute, just like Gina Swainson. She would stand proudly at a podium and say, "From this day forward, this road will carry the name of one of St George's most celebrated daughters and one of Bermuda's greatest icons."
The story of the Town of St. George is about care, respect, and remembrance. It is with that spirit that the nation of Bermuda let out a deep breath after waiting 47 years to say Gina Swainson has a permanent name on our "piece of the rock.”
Now, every little girl and boy can walk there and say, "I can be just like Ms. Swainson and be the king or queen of the world.” And, as the town demonstrated on that momentous day, any child knows, if they ever need help, there is a whole town there to stand behind them, to show up for them and recognize their worth.
Ms Swainson, as a daughter of the Town of St. George, you did us proud.

Smooth Sailing Ahead: New Ferry Schedule Brings More Visitors
Great news for both residents and businesses—there’s a fresh ferry schedule connecting Royal Naval Dockyard and St. George’s (Orange Route), making it easier than ever for visitors to spend the day in our historic town. The updated service now runs four times a day on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and three times a day on Tuesdays and Fridays, giving travelers more flexibility and more reasons to hop aboard and explore all that St. George’s has to offer.
With increased service comes increased opportunity—more visitors discovering our shops, restaurants, and rich heritage. Whether it’s a spontaneous day trip or a planned outing, the improved ferry schedule is set to bring a steady flow of energy into town. So keep an eye on the harbor—the next wave of visitors is already on its way!
The Final Urban Foot Race
The final edition of the Bermuda Triple Challenge got underway on the evening of Friday, March 13th with the CG Urban Foot Race through the historic old Town of St. George, followed by a community block party with DJ Fury and a bouncy castle. It was a fun night for the town, and a fitting send-off for what turned out to be the eleventh and last rendition of the event — one that has raised over $550,000 for Bermudian youth charities since 2012.

The app will show you the vehicle make, colour, and plate number. All approved vehicles display licence plates starting with RS and a window permit decal.

UNESCO World Poetry Day A Success
LThe success of an event is generally measured by how many people showed up or how much money was raised. However, the Town of St. George Poetry Day celebration was a success because all the children who participated learned a little more about St. George, became an official part of the Town’s story, and now have an indelible memory to share with future generations.

Scoop The Poop
Dogs seek owners help in poop clean up.
Dogs are adorable, but their poop is not. In our Town, maintaining a pristine appearance is crucial, and people remember cleanliness. Regrettably, we must address instances of carelessness.
While we love strolling with our canine companions, we do not enjoy having our staff clean up after them or guests being subjected to the smoosh of the odour-carrying clumps that leave a dreadful impression. We kindly request all dog owners to keep their pets on their leash and to be responsible and pick up after their pets when walking along Water Street, Ordnance Island, and King’s Square.
We had to implement a ban on dogs in our gardens, and we hope to avoid extending that ban to other public walking areas in the town.

The Public Is Invited to the Annual Peppercorn Ceremony
The ceremony brings together a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, civic leaders, and members of the public for one of Bermuda's most charming and time-honoured traditions. Proceedings open with a parade led by the Royal Bermuda Regiment band, setting a ceremonial tone as the Governor and Mayor make their formal arrivals. Following an inspection of the guard, the Mayor extends a Town Welcome before the Governor addresses those assembled.
The centerpiece of the occasion is the symbolic payment of rent — a single peppercorn — offered before the eyes of all in attendance, a gesture that captures the enduring pageantry and gentle wit of Bermudian civic life.
The event draws a broad cross-section of island society, from the Governor and Premier to Members of Parliament, the Town Mayor, Lodge members, clergy, and distinguished guests, with children among the crowd to witness this living piece of Bermudian heritage.

The couple behind Dreamscape Designs is putting a homegrown stamp on St. George's — one original creation at a time
Some businesses start with a storefront. Lacquered Lounge started with a calling. Owner Astoria Smith began her beauty career as a mobile practitioner, serving clients who were pregnant, battling cancer, or managing existing health conditions. Their questions about what was actually in the products — and how those ingredients might affect them and their families — changed everything.
That conviction became a business. Opened in 2020 and tucked into the scenic, ever-evolving heart of St. George's, Lacquered Lounge has carved out a distinctive space as Bermuda's foremost clean beauty lounge. Every service, product, and retail item has been hand-curated with two things in mind: you, and the earth.

That love of St. George's is personal. Growing up working in her family's beloved establishments — Temptations Café and Carriage House — gave Astoria a deep, lived appreciation for the town's history, community spirit, and character. "I love everything about St. George's," she says simply.
