St. George’s Calls You to Celebrate Cup Match

Celebrate Cup Match anyway you like!

Imagine a visitor landing in Bermuda just as the island was gearing up for its most legendary summer bash: Cup Match. From July 31st to August 3rd, 2025, St. George’s will become ground zero for an epic cricket rivalry that everyone talks about—St. George’s versus Somerset.

At the field, the colors hit you first: Somerset’s fiery red and navy, St. George’s navy and cool blues in every shade imaginable. Thousands of people fill the stands and spillover spaces, their cheers rising with every crack of the bat. Wandering around the field and invited into a family camp, you can grab a perfectly cooked fish sandwich and a black and coke to wash it down. DJs spin tunes between innings, the beats pulsing through the humid air, keeping the crowd energized and moving.

A quick game of Crown & Anchor—luck is definitely on your side that day—and everywhere, the fashion is on point with team colours blended into the look, Bermudian style. With a fresh Rum Swizzle in hand, you'll feel like you've stepped into the heart of the island’s soul. Cricket? Honestly, you might barely understand the rules, but the warmth and energy make you feel instantly at home.

But Cup Match isn’t just about the cricket. Locals have turned it into a full-blown, four-day beach holiday. From Ferry Point Park to Pontoons, to Southshore, to Dockyard, tents dot the shoreline. The air smells of salt and sizzling barbecue, mixed with kids' laughter and radios blaring the voice of summer. If you're lucky, you might even catch the match streaming from the beach over Bermuda’s 5G service. Waking up to pink sand and crystal-clear water is surreal; jumping off the rocks is exhilarating. Nights come alive with barbecues, laughter, generators, and tunes blending into the slow rhythm of the waves as camps quiet down.

Saturday’s Bacchanal Run is the perfect crescendo—an all-out street party from 5 pm to 11 pm where paint and water fly as freely as the laughter. Dancing with strangers, soaked and glowing, you'll feel the pure joy of Bermudian celebration pulsing through the night.

Sunday brings one of the island’s quirkiest traditions: the Non-Mariners Race at Mangrove Bay. Homemade boats, more likely to sink than sail, bob and flip as their creators cheer and groan. Later, nearly every boat on the island gathers for the Non-Mariners Raft-Up, a floating party with swimmers weaving between vessels and DJs cranking the tunes so loud even the fish seem to dance.

Cup Match isn’t just a game or a festival; it’s an invitation—to join a community, to dive into a culture, and to make memories you didn’t know you were craving.

Behind it all is 191 years of celebrating Emancipation from slavery. Bermudians do not forget; we face adversity with pride, resilience, and unity.

Celebrate 191 years of Emancipation with an unforgettable evening of heritage, town pride and team spirit, as we acknowledge the 25th year of the town being a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Join us at historic King's Square for a free celebration where the St. George's and Somerset fans rivalry takes center stage in the Battle for the Extravaganza Trophy. Test your island knowledge in our community trivia session, then watch fans clash in an exciting bowl-off. Come dressed in your team colors—two shades of blue for St. George's or red and blue for Somerset—and show your pride! Qian Dickinson emcees the evening, bringing fun and wit to every moment!

Feel the island energy as DJ Mystro hits you on the 1's and 2's as he cues up the real island sounds of the live steel pan offering of De Onion Patch Crew. Watch the bold and stylish St. George's Dancerettes and Rate E turn it out, and Fire Wayne elevate and move the crowd. And the drums, the thunderous drums and colorful costumes of the Gombeys.

Cool down with Ashley's famous lemonade, treat yourself with Bermuda Cupcake Company, grab a Hot Dog Delight, or try Sousa's Spring Rolls. Don't miss the authentic Stick Corn Goodies for that true island taste.

Kids will love the Fun Zone with Rock Climb & Slide Fun Castle, Mechanical Bull, and creative face painting from Paintz. There's something for every age to enjoy!

Where is Bermuda - BTA Video

Where is Bermuda? Here, in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, protected by a coral reef system. Closer than you think, yet a world all its own. This island doesn’t just exist on a map — it exists in feeling, in rhythm, in soul.

In the Town of St. George, our roots run deep. The stories of settlers still echo between stone walls. History lives here in pastel homes and white slate roofs that catch the rain and tradition. Every wall holds memory. Every limestone roof, resilience.

We are one island, many voices — African, British, Portuguese, Caribbean — all woven into one warm welcome. We fish off the rocks. We tell stories with every snapper sold. Our food is memory on a plate: spiny lobster, Johnny bread, chowder with a kick, and even fish cakes after midnight.

We dress up, we turn up — sometimes both in one night. We hold tradition in one hand and transformation in the other. From sunrise salutations to Sunday praise, we are reverent and radiant. Gombeys beat our heartbeat. Cricket becomes cause. Carnival becomes communion.

Our courses kiss the sea. Our sand blushes pink. Bermuda is not just a destination. It’s a memory waiting to be made — a connection to land, to people, to yourself.

UNESCO | SPOTLIGHT

The State House.

At the top of Princess Street stands a guardian: a 404-year-old building that has seen everything. It heard the private utterances of Bermuda’s first political leaders. It is the St. George’s State House, the first stone building in Bermuda outside of the island’s forts, and the first constructed for governmental use.

Built between October 1620 and April 1621, it is said Governor Nathaniel Butler, convinced that Bermuda shared the climate of the Mediterranean, commissioned the State House in the Italian style—with a flat roof. Bermuda’s climate tested that choice as the building suffered from persistent water pooling and leakage, and as any Bermudian will tell you, sitting water and stone create atmospheric outcomes. As the town evolved to employ the pitched roofs we see today out of necessity, the State House stands as genuinely unique architecture in St. George’s.

From 1620 until 1815, the State House served as Bermuda’s seat of government. The business of the country from the mid-1600s to 1680s was tobacco, and then, during the period of the 1670s–1680s, Bermudian salt rakers began regular seasonal voyages to the Turks and Caicos, a 750-mile trip taking roughly 5 days. They established temporary settlements on Salt Cay, Grand Turk, and South Caicos, returning home during hurricane season.

When the capital moved to Hamilton, it was leased to the Masonic Lodge St. George No. 200 G.R.S., which has used it ever since. In return, the lodge pays an annual rent of one peppercorn—a tradition commemorated each April with a formal Peppercorn Ceremony involving the Governor, the military, and members of Bermuda’s Cabinet.

Rebuilt in part in 1969 using John Smith’s early 17th-century engraving for reference, the State House remains a Grade 1 listed building. Though surrounded by more modern Bermudian architecture, it stands out with its distinctive façade and flat roof, a proud reminder of St. George’s colonial origins.

I’m passionate about empowering the next generation by sharing my global business knowledge.

My favorite part of operating in St. George’s is celebrating the rich history of this UNESCO World Heritage site. With deep family roots here, sharing our quaint town’s fascinating stories and proud heritage is truly special. I also cherish our beautiful Hunter’s Wharf location, surrounded by serene natural beauty and the captivating sight of boats. It’s a privilege to help preserve this town’s legacy.

Meet: Councillor Dr. Amne Osseyran

Dr. Amne Osseyran is a distinguished Bermudian Family Physician and forensic expert, elected as a Town Councillor for St. George on May 11, 2023. Known for her exceptional drive and commitment to public service, Dr. Osseyran has consistently achieved at the highest levels, from excelling in the Bermuda Public School System to earning multiple advanced degrees. Her academic journey includes degrees Forensic Science, Biomedical Science, Clinical Forensic Medicine, Medical Science and Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. This formidable educational background, pursued while balancing significant personal responsibilities, underscores her unwavering dedication.
